Budgeting
You can have KOSMIQ create a translated copy of a budget without changing the original.
KOSMIQ translates the names in a budget into English, German, French or Spanish and puts them into a new budget, for example for a co-producer abroad. The budget you translate stays as it is. You need:
- AI answers turned on, an internet connection, and to be signed in. To turn on AI answers, see [get help from inside KOSMA](/kb/article/get-help-from-inside-kosma). - A licence other than **Free** to create the copy; see [what your licence includes](/kb/article/what-your-licence-includes). A budget someone shared with you as **Can view** cannot be copied.
Open the budget, then open KOSMIQ. Type a request with the word "translate" and one target language, for example "Translate the budget into French", and send it. KOSMIQ sends the names in the budget and the name of the budget to the AI service.
The translation takes a few minutes, and you cannot stop it. Then KOSMIQ offers the copy:
Create "Film Budget (fr)" — a translated copy? Your original stays untouched.
Click **Do it**. KOSMIQ creates the copy as a new budget in the same project and opens it. The original is still in the budget dropdown. Only you can see the copy, and it starts without the original's sharing settings, cost control set, financing plan and cash flow plan. If you click **Cancel**, KOSMIQ creates nothing.
KOSMIQ translates the names of categories, groups, accounts, subaccounts, markups, subtotals and units, and of variables, work phases, companies and tags. Formulas that use these names keep working in the copy. Fringes, supplements, extra costs, taxes, effects and milestones keep their names.
When KOSMIQ is not sure of a translation, it leaves the name as it is, and its answer ends with how many names stayed. If some of its requests failed, KOSMIQ answers:
I translated part of the budget — some of my requests failed, so those labels are still in their original language. That is a fault on my side, not with your budget. Ask me again to retry them. 14 of 151 labels stayed in their original language.
Then ask again before you click **Do it**. KOSMIQ translates the whole budget again.
Units, subtotals, variables, work phases, companies and tags each need a unique name. If the units "Week" and "Wk" would both become "Semaine", one of them keeps its original name. A variable or work phase also keeps its original name when its translation is not one word of letters and digits, such as "Prises de vue" or "Post-production", because a formula can only use a name of one word.
To correct a name in the copy, rename it as in any budget; see [edit a budget account](/kb/article/edit-a-budget-account) and [add groups and accounts](/kb/article/add-groups-and-accounts).
**If KOSMIQ cannot translate the budget.** If AI answers are off, or you are offline or signed out, KOSMIQ answers that it could not translate the budget and sends nothing: turn on AI answers or sign in, then ask again.
