Budgeting
You know what the fringes toggle changes in the grid, and which of its two views answers which question.
Applied fringes, supplements and extra costs appear in the grid as extra rows beneath an account. One toggle in the toolbar decides **which** account they appear beneath, and the two answers serve different questions.
**Collected together (default).** Every contribution sits under the account that collects it, so the collect-in account expands to show what has accumulated in it.
This is the view that matches the budget as it will be read and reported: one social-security line, with its constituents visible underneath. It answers *what are we paying in total for statutory contributions*.
**Under the account that caused them.** Each contribution sits under the wage account that generated it, with a sum row.
This answers a different question: *what does this person actually cost* — wage plus contributions plus premiums, in one place. That figure exists nowhere else, because the wage account's own total is only the wage.
Nothing moves in the budget when you flip it. The money is collected in the collect-in account either way — that is decided when the fringe is defined, not here — see [how collect-in accounts work](/kb/article/how-collect-in-accounts-work). Only where the rows are drawn changes.
This also means totals do not change. If a category total moves when you toggle, that is a bug, not a feature.
