Budgeting
You can create the production's phases with their dates, and read the two day counts each one produces.
Click **Timeline** in the left panel.
**Double-click** on the calendar in the **Work Phases** lane, at roughly the right point. The New Work Phase dialog opens.
- **Name** — becomes part of the variable names, so keep it short and stable. *Shooting* gives `Shooting_workdays`; renaming it later changes them. - **Start Date** and **End Date**. - **Total Days (TD)** and **Work Days (WD)** — the calendar span and the days actually worked. - **Select color** — how the phase reads on the timeline.
The phase then shows its own counts on the bar: `TD: 45 | WD: 40`.
Drag the bar to move or resize the phase, or reopen it to edit the dates. The day counts follow.
**Everything referencing the phase follows too.** That is the point — see [use phase durations in formulas](/kb/article/use-phase-durations-in-formulas).
**Days**, **Weeks** and **Months** change the scale. **Today** jumps to the current date, and the arrows pan.
**Naming, before you have twenty accounts pointing at them.** Phase names become variable names, so decide the set early: *Prep*, *Shooting*, *Wrap* — the same names your subaccounts use. Consistency between the two is what makes a budget legible, and renaming a phase after formulas reference it is the awkward case to avoid.
