Financing
You can save a financing plan as a template, start a new plan from it and delete it, and you know what a template keeps.
A financing template is a saved copy of the rows of one financing plan. When you create a new plan, you can start it from the template. If you finance every film with the same funds and broadcasters, you can build that structure once and use it in every project. To save a template, you need a Production licence or a running trial.
Open the plan in Financing. In the **Project** menu, choose **Save As Template** ▸ **To Custom Templates**. KOSMA opens **Save as Template**.
The field shows a suggested name, such as New Template 1. Type a name of your own and click **Save**. KOSMA does not check whether another template already has the same name, so choose a name you will recognise in the list. KOSMA saves only the open plan in the template. The budget the plan is linked to is not part of the template. KOSMA saves the template on this computer and then uploads it to the server. If the upload fails, for example because you are signed out, KOSMA shows:
The financing template was saved on this device but could not be uploaded. It will retry syncing.
A template keeps:
- the countries, groups and sources with their numbers and names - the amount and currency of each source - the first tag of each source - the cash flow rules, with their dates, milestones, percentages and delays - the installments with their numbers, names, amounts, currencies and cash flow rules
A template keeps each amount as a number. If an amount is a formula, the template keeps the number the formula shows when you save. Every plan you create from the template starts with these amounts, so save the template from a plan whose amounts you want new plans to start with.
A template does not keep the status, company, effect, tax, notes or attachments of a source. It also does not keep the further tags of a source, the tags of installments, subtotals or which rows are deactivated. A copy of the plan keeps the status, company, effect, tax and notes of each source and which rows are deactivated. See [copy a financing plan](/kb/article/copy-a-financing-plan).
Open **New Financing Plan** and choose the budget to link the plan to, as described in [create a financing plan](/kb/article/create-a-financing-plan). Under **Choose Template**, KOSMA shows **No Template** first and then your saved templates, the newest first.
Choose a template and click **Ok**. KOSMA creates the plan with the template's rows, linked to the budget you chose. If that budget has the currency of a source, the source keeps it. Otherwise, KOSMA uses the budget's default currency. If the budget has a milestone with the same name, a cash flow rule keeps its milestone. Otherwise, the rule loses its milestone.
To use a template file from your computer, click  **Load File** and choose a `.kost` file. KOSMA adds the template directly below **No Template**, names it after the file without `.kost`, and selects it. If the file is not a financing template, KOSMA shows:
“{file name}” is not a financing template.
In the row of a saved template, point at . KOSMA shows:
Delete custom template from list
KOSMA deletes the template at once, without asking and for good, on this computer and on the server. You cannot undo this.
Click  to delete the template.
A template stays as it was when you saved it. Changes to the plan you saved it from do not change the template. A plan you create from the template is not linked to it either. To change a template, change a plan, save it as a new template and delete the old one.
A financing template holds the rows of one financing plan. You choose it under **Choose Template** in **New Financing Plan**. A budget template holds a whole budget, and you choose it in **New Budget**. You save both with **Save As Template** ▸ **To Custom Templates**, each in its own module. Either your licence does not cover Financing, or the plan is shared with you read-only. An expired trial counts as a Free licence. To get a licence that covers Financing, see [upgrade your licence](/kb/article/upgrade-your-licence). If the plan is shared with you read-only, ask its owner to share it with you for editing.
