Financing
You know what each of the eight grand totals of a financing plan shows and why Financing can differ from the budget total.
KOSMA shows eight figures for the financing plan under **Grand Totals in**, followed by the display currency, for example **Grand Totals in EUR**. They show how far the plan covers the budget, how certain the money is and how much of it has arrived. KOSMA converts every figure into the display currency you choose in the currency list of the toolbar. As long as the budget has no financing plan, every figure shows a dash instead of an amount.

A source is active as long as you have not deactivated it, its group or its country. See [deactivate sources, groups and countries](/kb/article/deactivate-financing-rows).
If the plan is linked to a budget, the middle row reads **Budget**. If it is linked to a cost control set, the row reads **Forecast**. See [how a plan links to a budget](/kb/article/how-a-plan-links-to-a-budget).
**Difference** tells you how far the plan covers that total:
- Below zero: the plan does not cover the total yet. - Zero: the plan covers the total exactly. - Above zero: the plan brings in more money than the total.
When **Difference** is below zero, KOSMA shows it in a different colour.

**Confirmed**, **Submitted** and **Pending** split **Financing** by the status of the active sources. Together they always add up to **Financing**. The larger **Pending** is, the less of the plan is certain. See [what the source status means](/kb/article/what-the-source-status-means).

KOSMA calculates **Received** from the cash-flow rules of the active sources. You cannot mark money as received yourself. For a source with installments, KOSMA counts every installment whose cash-flow date lies before today. For a source without installments, KOSMA counts the whole amount once the source's own cash-flow date lies before today. A source without a cash-flow rule adds nothing to **Received**, even when it is confirmed. When **Outstanding** is below zero, KOSMA shows it in a different colour, as with **Difference**. These five causes explain most differences, the most common first:
1. A source's **Amount** cell is empty. The source stays in the plan, and its cell in the **Total** column stays empty. 2. KOSMA can no longer calculate a source's amount formula, often because someone renumbered an account or renamed a tag in the budget. Its cell in the **Total** column stays empty as well. To find the formula, click  in the toolbar. The **Amount** column then shows the formula in each cell instead of its result. The row stays in the plan, but KOSMA counts nothing from it. Select the row that was deactivated: the source itself, its group or its country. For that row, the toolbar button reads  **Activate**. Click it to count the row again. 4. You compare the plan with a budget or cost control set other than the one it is linked to. Above the grand totals, **Linked Budget** names the budget the plan is linked to, and **Linked Cost Control** names the cost control set. 5. The plan is not fully financed yet. **Difference** shows how much is missing.
