First Steps
You can open a project, know which window you end up in, and work in more than one project at once.
Type in **Search…** if it is a long list.
Click the open control on the project's row, or double-click the row.
It opens on the budget it was last showing. **A project that has no budget yet opens straight into the New Budget dialog** — there is nothing else it could show you, so it asks for the first one. See [create a budget from a template](/kb/article/create-a-budget-from-a-template).
**The project opens in its own window, and the Project Manager stays open behind it.** It did not turn into the project — it is still there, still listing everything.
That is deliberate, and it is what lets you **open several projects at once**. Each gets its own window; the Project Manager keeps listing them all. Switching production is switching window, not closing and reopening.
Two kinds of window, and only two: the Project Manager, and one window per open project. Nothing else in KOSMA opens a third — settings, dialogs and reports all appear inside one of these two.
**A project you have opened before opens offline.** Its documents are already on your machine. You will see that KOSMA is offline, and you can keep working.
What you cannot do offline is reach a project you have never opened on this machine — there is nothing local to open yet. See [work offline or in local-only mode](/kb/article/work-offline-or-in-local-only-mode).
**Closing it again.** Close the project window when you are done. If anything is unsaved, KOSMA asks first — see [save your work before you quit](/kb/article/how-your-work-is-saved-and-synced).
