First Steps
You can look up every keyboard shortcut and mouse click with a key that KOSMA knows, on a Mac and on Windows.
With these keys you move through a budget, select rows and add rows without the mouse. On a Mac you press **⌘**, on Windows **Ctrl**. In the **Help** menu, **Keyboard Shortcuts** shows the most important ones in the app; on Windows, **F1** opens it too. This page lists all of them.
On a budget or plan you cannot edit, for example on a Free licence, the shortcuts that add, paste, delete or undo do nothing. The same holds for opening and closing all rows and for switching to formulas; use the toolbar buttons there.
| Mac | Windows | What it does | | --------------------------- | ------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | | **⌘ S** | **Ctrl+S** | Saves the project | | **⌘ P** | **Ctrl+P** | Opens the print dialog | | **⌘ Z** | **Ctrl+Z** | Undoes the last step. In a text field, it undoes what you typed | | **⌘ ⇧ Z** | **Ctrl+Shift+Z** | Redoes the step you undid | | **⌘ N** | **Ctrl+N** | Creates a new budget, financing plan, cash flow plan or cost control set, depending on the open module | | **⌘ ⇧ N** | **Ctrl+Shift+N** | Copies the open budget, plan or set | | **⌘ 1** | **Ctrl+1** | Switches to Budgeting | | **⌘ 2** | **Ctrl+2** | Switches to Financing | | **⌘ 3** | **Ctrl+3** | Switches to Cash Flow | | **⌘ 4** | **Ctrl+4** | Switches to Cost Control | | **⌘ ,** | **Ctrl+,** | Opens **Variables** | | **⌘ O** | **Ctrl+O** | Brings the Project Manager to the front | | **⌘ +** / **⌘ −** / **⌘ 0** | **Ctrl+Plus** / **Ctrl+Minus** / **Ctrl+0** | Zooms in, zooms out or resets the zoom to the actual size | | **⌘ W** | **Ctrl+W** | Closes the window |
In KOSMA in the browser, **⌘ N** and **⌘ O** do not work, because the browser keeps these keys for itself. Use the **Project** and **View** menus there.
In a dialog, **Enter** in a text field confirms the entry and moves to the **OK** button. A second **Enter** clicks it. **Esc** closes the dialog like **Cancel**.
The arrow keys move from row to row, not from cell to cell. The row you move to is selected.
| Mac | Windows | What it does | | ------------------- | ------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **↑** / **↓** | **↑** / **↓** | Selects the row above or below | | **⇧ ↑** / **⇧ ↓** | **Shift+↑** / **Shift+↓** | Adds the row above or below to the selection | | **Tab** / **⇧ Tab** | **Tab** / **Shift+Tab** | Moves to the next or previous cell you can type in, within the same row. After the last cell, it goes back to the first | | **Enter** | **Enter** | Opens the cell you are on for typing, or confirms what you typed | | **Esc** | **Esc** | Discards what you typed in the cell | | **⌘ A** | **Ctrl+A** | Widens the selection step by step: from an account to all accounts of its group, then to all accounts of the category. From a group to all groups | | **⌘ ⇧ →** | **Ctrl+Shift+→** | Opens every row (**Expand all**) | | **⌘ ⇧ ←** | **Ctrl+Shift+←** | Closes every row (**Collapse all**) |
With the mouse you can also select rows that are not next to each other:
| Mac | Windows | What it does | | ------------- | ----------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | click | click | Selects only this row | | **⌘** + click | **Ctrl** + click | Adds the row to the selection, or removes it | | **⇧** + click | **Shift** + click | Selects every row from the selected row to this one | | right-click | right-click | Selects the row and opens the menu with copy and paste. On a row inside the selection, the selection stays |
KOSMA always selects whole rows. You cannot select a column or a block of cells. To show, hide or move columns, see [choose and arrange grid columns](/kb/article/choose-and-arrange-grid-columns).
| Mac | Windows | What it does | | --------- | --------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------- | | **⌘ ⇧ 1** | **Ctrl+Shift+1** | Adds a group. On **Overview/Markups**, adds a category | | **⌘ ⇧ 2** | **Ctrl+Shift+2** | Adds an account. On **Overview/Markups**, adds a subtotal | | **⌘ ⇧ 3** | **Ctrl+Shift+3** | Adds a subaccount | | **⌘ C** | **Ctrl+C** | Copies the selected rows, or the clicked cell | | **⌘ X** | **Ctrl+X** | Cuts the selected rows (**Cut Budget Rows**) | | **⌘ V** | **Ctrl+V** | Pastes rows or a cell at the selection | | **⌫** | **Delete** or **Backspace** | Deletes the selected rows | | **⌘ E** | **Ctrl+E** | Switches between values and formulas |
Which rows a copy takes and where a paste goes is in [copy and reorder budget rows](/kb/article/copy-and-reorder-budget-rows).
In **Quantity**, **Price/Unit** and **X**, **↓** opens the list of variables and functions. **↑** and **↓** move in the list, **→** opens a section, **Enter** inserts the entry and **Esc** closes the list.
In the search box, **↑** and **↓** move through the suggestions, **Enter** goes to the selected entry and **Esc** closes the list. The search box and the filter have no shortcut of their own; click them. See [search a budget](/kb/article/search-a-budget).
The arrow keys and **Tab** work as in the budget grid. The same holds for **⌘ C**, **⌘ V**, **⌫**, **⌘ A**, **⌘ E**, **⌘ ⇧ →** and **⌘ ⇧ ←**. **⌘ X** is for budget rows only.
| Mac | Windows | What it does | | --------- | ---------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------- | | **⌘ ⇧ 1** | **Ctrl+Shift+1** | Adds a country | | **⌘ ⇧ 2** | **Ctrl+Shift+2** | Adds a group | | **⌘ ⇧ 3** | **Ctrl+Shift+3** | Adds a source | | **⌘ ⇧ 4** | **Ctrl+Shift+4** | Adds an installment | | **Enter** | **Enter** | On a cell you cannot type in, opens **Description** of the row |
How **⌘ A** widens the selection in the plan is in [copy and reorder financing rows](/kb/article/copy-and-reorder-financing-rows).
| Mac | Windows | What it does | | --------------------- | ----------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **⌘ ⇧ 1** | **Ctrl+Shift+1** | Adds an account | | **⌫** | **Delete** or **Backspace** | Deletes the selected account with its subaccounts, never a cost item | | **⌘ ⇧ →** / **⌘ ⇧ ←** | **Ctrl+Shift+→** / **Ctrl+Shift+←** | Opens or closes every row | | **↑** / **↓** | **↑** / **↓** | In the cost items under an account, selects the item above or below | | **⇧ ↑** / **⇧ ↓** | **Shift+↑** / **Shift+↓** | In the cost items, goes to the previous or next account and shows its items | | **⌘ A** | **Ctrl+A** | In the **Cost Items List**, selects every item the filters show |
In the **Cost Items List**, hold **⇧** or **⌘** (Windows: **Shift** or **Ctrl**) while you click to select several items. See [work with the cost item list](/kb/article/work-with-the-cost-item-list).
Cash Flow has no shortcuts of its own. The shortcuts under *In every module* work there.
| Mac | Windows | What it does | | ------- | ---------- | --------------------------------------------- | | **⌘ N** | **Ctrl+N** | Creates a new project | | **⌘ S** | **Ctrl+S** | Saves every open project with unsaved changes | | **⌘ W** | **Ctrl+W** | Closes the window |
