KOSMA updates itself, but it asks about your unsaved work before it restarts — and you can check your version yourself.
**Updating is not something you have to organise.** KOSMA checks on its own, downloads on its own, and restarts itself to apply what it downloaded. There is no *Install later* button.
What there is, and what matters more, is that the restart cannot take your unsaved work with it.
1. **A message that an update is coming.** It says the new version will be installed automatically. Nothing is asked of you. 2. **A password prompt.** This is your *computer* asking permission to install software — not KOSMA, and not your KOSMA account. It wants the password you use to log in to the machine. 3. **A message that KOSMA is about to restart.** A few seconds later, it does.
These are KOSMA's own messages, not system notifications. They appear in the bottom-right corner of the [Project Manager window](/kb/article/the-project-manager-window), in the language KOSMA is running in.
**If any project has unsaved changes when the restart arrives, KOSMA stops and asks.** You get the same dialog you get when you quit: a list of every project with unsaved changes, and three choices.
| Choice | What happens | | --------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ | | **Save All** | Every listed project is saved, then KOSMA restarts into the new version. | | **Discard All** | The listed changes are thrown away, then KOSMA restarts. | | **Cancel** | Nothing restarts. You carry on working. |
Cancel is the *Install later* the message does not offer. It costs you nothing: KOSMA keeps checking, so the update is offered again — and it is found again the next time you start KOSMA in any case.
A project with no unsaved changes is not listed and not asked about. If nothing is unsaved anywhere, the restart simply happens.

**Help ▸ Check for Updates** runs the check on demand, rather than waiting for the hourly one. If you are current, it names the version you are on and says it is up to date. If you are not, it finds the update and starts the sequence above.
