Cash Flow
You know what an outdated cash flow rule is, how to find the cost items that have one and how to fix each of them.
A cash flow rule is outdated when it points to a date in the past and the cost item it applies to has no payment date yet. The cash flow plan then places the estimated cost of that cost item in a past period, or before the plan window. The cash flow plan shows no warning for this. You find these cost items with a filter in Cost Control.
A rule counts as outdated as soon as one of its dates lies before today. This applies to rules based on milestones or dates and to rules with a payment cycle. It matters only for cost items that are not paid. A cost item counts as paid when it has both a paid amount and a payment date. KOSMA then shows it in the cash flow plan on its payment date with the paid amount, and the rule no longer matters.
A cost item has one payment date. Once it has one, the filter no longer lists it, even when later dates of its rule lie in the past.
Open the cost control set and click  **Filter**. KOSMA opens the filter panel. In **Select type**, choose **Outdated cash flow rule**. Next to it, choose **is**, then **empty**, and click **Apply**. KOSMA lists the cost items with an outdated rule.
For this type, the last field offers only **empty**. With **is not**, KOSMA lists all other cost items. Budgeting does not offer this filter, because a budget has no payment dates.
An outdated rule has one of two causes, depending on whether the cost item has been paid. Each cause has its own fix. To enter the payment or change the rule, you need the **Cost Control** licence or a higher one. If the cost item has been paid, enter the paid amount and the payment date on it in Cost Control. For the steps, see [mark a cost item as paid](/kb/article/mark-a-cost-item-as-paid). Once you have entered them, the cash flow plan shows the money on the payment date. This also fixes a cost item that you paid and that the plan still shows in an old month. KOSMA also locks the rule of the paid cost item. In its **Cashflow** panel, the pen  is greyed out, and its tooltip says:
This cost item is paid and carries a payment date — its cashflow rule can no longer be changed
If nothing has been paid yet, change the rule so that it points to the date on which you now expect the payment. The rule belongs to the cost item itself. Select the cost item in the filtered list in Cost Control. In its **Cashflow** panel, click  **Edit cashflow rule**. KOSMA opens **Set Cash Flow Rule**. Tie a rule to a milestone wherever the cost depends on the shoot. KOSMA dates each milestone from the first shooting day in the timeline, so a rule on a milestone moves when the first shooting day moves.
