You can export a budget to an Excel file and know what the file contains.
**Export Data** saves a budget as an Excel file (.xlsx) with the numbers KOSMA calculated, without formulas. You need the budget open in Budgeting. In Financing, Cash Flow and Cost Control, **Export Data** exports the data of that module.
In Budgeting, open the **Project** menu and choose **Export Data**. KOSMA opens the save dialog of your computer and suggests the budget's name as the file name.
Choose a folder and save the file. When KOSMA has written the file, it shows this message:

The file has one sheet, named Budget, with one row for each account and one for each subaccount of the whole budget. The category you selected in KOSMA does not limit the export, and deactivated accounts are in the file too. The file has no rows for categories, groups, markups or the grand total.
The columns, from left to right, are Category, Group, No, Description, Quantity, Price/Unit, Currency, Unit, Factor, Total, Total Currency, Producers, Effects and Taxes. The column Producers contains the companies.
Every cell contains a value, never a formula: Quantity, Price/Unit and Factor contain the numbers KOSMA calculated, and Total contains the total of the row. Companies and effects appear only on account rows. Taxes appear on account and subaccount rows.
**The file does not change with the budget.** The file shows the budget at the moment of the export. When you edit the budget in KOSMA afterwards, the file stays as it is, and when you change a number in the file, KOSMA does not change the budget. **If Export Data is greyed out.** **Export Data** and **Print…** are greyed out together, for the same reasons. Why, and what you can do then, is in [print a budget](/kb/article/print-a-budget).
