Budgeting
You can take an account out of the totals without deleting it, and bring it back with one click.
A deactivated account stays in the budget with its own total. KOSMA leaves it out of every total above it: its group, its category and the grand total. You see the budget total without that cost, and you delete nothing.
Select the account and click  **Deactivate**. To deactivate every account in a group, select the group instead. KOSMA dims the row. One ⌘Z (Ctrl+Z on Windows) undoes it.
When you deactivate an account or its group, KOSMA also removes the account's fringes, supplements, extra costs and taxes from the accounts that collect them. When you activate it again, they come back.
Select the deactivated account and click  **Activate**. If you deactivated a group, select the group. KOSMA counts the account in the totals again. As soon as your selection contains a deactivated account, the button reads  **Activate**, and a click activates every selected account.
To test a scenario, deactivate a cost and read the new grand total. You can also deactivate an account you have not decided on yet.

**If Deactivate is greyed out.**  **Deactivate** works on accounts and groups, not on subaccounts. If you selected a subaccount, select its account. If the button stays greyed out with an account selected, point at it: KOSMA shows why you cannot edit this budget. See [what your licence includes](/kb/article/what-your-licence-includes).
