Cost Control
You can copy a cost control set, for yourself or as a backup that stays shared, to keep a period's position before you book into the next one.
A cost control set changes with every booking. Copy a set to keep a period's closing position before you book into the next one. You need a Cost Control or Production licence, or a running trial. With any other licence, KOSMA greys out the copy controls; see [what your licence includes](/kb/article/what-your-licence-includes).
Click  **Copy Cost Control** next to the set dropdown, or choose **Project** > **Copy Cost Control Set** (⌘⇧N on a Mac, Ctrl+Shift+N on Windows). KOSMA opens **Copy Cost Control** for the open set. To copy another set of the open budget, choose **Manage Cost Control Sets** in the set dropdown and click  in that set's row. KOSMA then opens **Copy Cost Control** for the set in that row. The copy button in the row has no readable tooltip at the moment. To copy a set on another budget, open that set first (set dropdown, **In Other Budgets**) and copy it.
If the set is shared with other people, KOSMA first asks **What kind of copy?**. Choose **A backup** or **A copy for me**. **A backup** is preselected. A backup stays shared with the same people as the set. **A copy for me** is shared with nobody; the project owner sees it, as they see every set. For a set that is not shared, KOSMA does not ask and makes a copy for you. For who sees a shared set, see [how sharing works](/kb/article/how-sharing-works).
Enter a name that identifies the period, for example Cost Control as at 31 March. For a copy, KOSMA suggests the set's name followed by (copy); if that name is taken, (copy 2), (copy 3) and so on. For a backup, KOSMA suggests the set's name followed by (backup) and fills the comment with who made the backup and when. KOSMA selects the suggested name, so your first keystroke replaces it. You can add a comment in **Comment (optional)**. **Create Copy** stays greyed out while the name field is empty.
Click **Create Copy**, or **Create Backup** if you chose **A backup**. KOSMA creates a new set on the same budget, with the same accounts, cost items and forecasts as the set you copied. It lists the new set after the other sets. After **Create Copy**, KOSMA opens the copy. After **Create Backup**, the set you copied stays open.
**The two sets stay independent.** Booking into one set does not change the other. Both sets show the same **Budget** column, because KOSMA reads it from the budget both sets are made from.
To keep the set as it is before an accounting import, copy it with **Copy Cost Control** before you start the import. The import also offers a copy of its own, under **Copy Cost Control Dataset**:

This option does not copy the open set. KOSMA creates a new set from the budget, without cost items, and imports the accounting data into that new set. The set you had open stays as it was. For the import itself, see [import accounting data](/kb/article/import-accounting-data).
