Financing
You can enter a source in the currency of its contract and see it converted in every total of the plan.
Enter each source in the currency its contract names, for example Swiss francs for a Swiss co-producer or US dollars for a US distributor. Do not convert the amount yourself: an amount you convert by hand keeps the rate of that day, and the row no longer shows the amount in the contract.
Double-click the source's **Amount** cell, or select it and press Enter. KOSMA opens the cell for editing, with a currency list next to the amount. Choose the currency named in the contract. The list shows the currencies of the linked budget (see [how a plan links to a budget](/kb/article/how-a-plan-links-to-a-budget)).
If the currency is not in the list, click **Edit** in the list. KOSMA opens **Currencies** in the linked budget, where you add the currency and its exchange rate. For the steps, see [set currencies and the reporting currency](/kb/article/set-currencies-and-the-reporting-currency).
If a cost control set locks the linked budget,  **Currency** in **Currencies** is greyed out. When you point at it, KOSMA shows:
This budget is locked because it is linked to a Cost Control set, so nothing new can be added to its catalog. To add to it, open the budget and choose Unlock for Correction.
Type the amount the contract names. KOSMA keeps the amount in the source's own currency. The total column shows the amount converted into the plan's display currency, and its header names that currency, for example **Total (EUR)**. You choose the display currency in the currency list of the toolbar. At first, it is the default currency of the linked budget.
KOSMA converts the amount of the source into the default currency of the budget and from there into the display currency. Each exchange rate states how many units of that currency equal one unit of the budget's default currency. You set the rates in **Currencies** in the linked budget.
KOSMA adds up the converted amounts in the totals of the group and country rows, in the **Financing Total** row and in the grand totals next to the grid (see [read the grand totals](/kb/article/read-the-financing-grand-totals)). A plan with sources in several currencies therefore shows one total in one currency.
For example, in a budget with EUR as its default currency, CHF has the exchange rate 0.95, that is 0.95 CHF per 1 EUR. With EUR as the display currency, a source of 160,000 CHF shows 168,421.05 in **Total (EUR)**, and a source of 100,000 CHF shows 105,263.16. The country Switzerland, with these two sources, shows 273,684.21 EUR. With CHF as the display currency, a source of 350,000 EUR shows 332,500.00 in **Total (CHF)**.
**When an exchange rate changes.** KOSMA converts the amounts each time it shows the plan. When someone changes a rate in the linked budget, the total of every source in that currency changes, and every total above it changes with it. A new rate changes the figures of the plan while others work in it. Agree with your team when to change rates.
