Financing
You can build a plan's tree in the order the app requires, and you know why a toolbar button is greyed out.
A new plan is empty, and the toolbar looks half broken — most buttons are greyed out. They are not broken; they are waiting for the level above.
**Country → Group → Source → Installment.** Each button becomes available only once its parent exists, and each says so if you hover it:

So on an empty plan, **Country** is the only thing you can do — and that is the answer to "why can't I add anything".
Click **Country**. It arrives named *Country 1*; type over it. Use the country that grants the money, not the country you are shooting in — the plan is organised by where financing comes from.
Select the country, click **Group**. It arrives as *New Group*.
Groups are your headings, not a fixed list. Most plans use a handful — regional funds, national funds, broadcasters, distribution, own contribution — and consistency across your projects matters more than which words you choose.
Select the group, click **Source**. Each arrives as *New Source*; rename it to the financier you mean.
Then give it an **Amount** and a **Currency**, and set its **Status** — see [what a financing source is](/kb/article/what-a-financing-source-is).
Select the source and click **Installment**. Note that installments are then managed inside the Set Cash Flow Rule dialog rather than in the grid — see [add installments to a source](/kb/article/add-installments-to-a-source).
**Build it roughly first.** A plan is easier to fill in than to design. Put the countries and groups in, drop in every source you can think of with no amounts, and only then work through the money.
